Contacts and lists

Import a CSV file into a newsletter list

Add subscribers from a CSV file and choose whether to also create CRM contacts.

Prepare your file

Use a CSV file with a clear header row and one email address per row. Names and other details can have their own columns. Check that you are importing the correct business’s contacts.

A list is an audience for campaigns. Not everyone on it needs to be a CRM contact with their own contact card.

Import directly into the right list

  1. Open Lists and choose the list that should receive the recipients.
  2. Start the CSV import and upload your file.
  3. Check the mapping between the file’s columns and the details you want to include.
  4. Choose whether everyone should also be created as contacts in CRM de la Crème. Leave this off if you only want to build your recipient list.
  5. Review the counts, errors and any duplicates. Confirm that you have permission to email addresses added as active recipients.
  6. Approve the import and follow its progress. Finish or cancel an ongoing import before uploading the next file.

What happens to existing addresses?

If an email address already belongs to a contact, list membership is linked to that person. You should not need another contact card for the same address just to add someone to more lists.

Review the results even for large files. Invalid rows need correcting; a successful upload does not mean every row became an active recipient.

Importing does not send an email

Recipients are not notified that they have been added or linked to the list. The first campaign happens when you review and send a newsletter yourself.

An import does not prove consent to subscribe. Keep evidence of why you may contact these people and respect delivery blocks and unsubscribes.
